About Bonding & Contouring
A dental bonding is a composite resin that is used as an alternative to amalgam fillings and porcelain veneers. This is an excellent cosmetic option for those patients who do not want the look of silver in their mouths and do not want the expense of veneers. Dental bondings can be used on teeth that are decayed, cracked, stained, crowded or have gaps (diastema). The entire procedure is completed at our fully equipped Traverse City office by board-certified dentist, Dr. Phillip Yancho. These resins typically last from 4 – 10 years before they begin to chip and wear away. Bonded veneers at Yancho Family and Cosmetic Dentistry are a useful go between on younger patients or on patients who are not quite ready to invest in the more durable and aesthetic porcelain. The smaller the restoration, the longer it can last. When used as veneers, the bonding life is dependent on many factors, such as habits (smoking, using teeth as tools), diet, and the force of the bite.
"Phillip C. Yancho, D.D.S., Cosmetic and Family Dentistry, Traverse City, is more than a name or a dental practice. It is the gold standard of service, treatment, and care. From our very first phone call to the on-going dental experience, we are always in the hands of a friendly, professional family. Dental hygiene, education, and a spectrum of dental care give us good health. Even the front and back office staff are the best.Having relocated several times, we are delighted to have found a practice that uses not only the latest technology and diagnostics, but also engages the friendliest professionals among all our medical and service providers. In Traverse City, a mecca for excellent medical services, that is high praise."- R.H. / Google / Mar 17, 2017
"I have had dental issues my entire life. Dr. Yancho is by far the best dentist I have ever encountered. His practice is guided by what he feels is best for the patient, not predicated by insurance dictates or any third party interests. I was there yesterday and he rebuilt a badly damaged tooth. It looks perfect - I cannot believe how beautiful it looks and how good it feels. I'm 71 and only wish I had encountered him earlier in my life. An absolutely amazing exceptional dentist. I recommend him unreservedly."- S.Q. / Yelp / Jul 19, 2019
"Dr Yancho and his staff are the best ! He helped me with an emergent situation when I had a 'hot' tooth and came in his office to fix it himself!! Dr Yancho is a warm, welcoming person who is very knowledgeable, adept in his field and promotes education for dental students and his patients. He has helped veterans like me tremendously over the years. Much gratitude for him! Best dental practice in Northern MI. !!! I highly recommend him!! "Dr. Yancho and his staff are caring and knowledgeable. I have a fear of needles when it comes to my mouth. Dr. Yancho has developed an amazing painless injection technique.Even if I move away from Traverse City, I will continue to return to him for my dental."- P.G. / Google / Jun 05, 2019
"I’m always impressed with your kindness, and understanding when it comes to my anxiety with dentists. Thanks for making me fee comfortable while you make my teeth look amazingly better, and the call back the following day to check in on me. Wish I had you in my younger years and maybe I wouldn’t have the anxiety I get when visiting the dentist. I do have to say I’m getting much better each time I go now. Thanks Again, Becky A."- B.A. / Facebook / Apr 25, 2019
What to Expect
This treatment option is fast and painless. The dentist will begin by etching the surface layer of the tooth and applying a conditioning gel which will help ensure the resin will correctly bond to the tooth. The resin itself is matched to the existing tooth color and shaped to match the teeth near it. After that, a hardening light is used to harden the resin, and then the tooth is polished to to its final shape. This procedure is usually performed in the dentist’s office with little or no anesthesia.
Patients should expect results to last for 3 – 10 years after this treatment. Good dental hygiene can prolong the duration, so patients are encouraged to follow a good home oral care routine and visit their dentist for regular exams and cleanings. Since dental bonding is easier to chip or stain than dental veneers, patients should avoid staining foods and drinks, quit smoking, and avoid biting hard objects. Even after the results diminish, the teeth can often be easily re-treated in order to prolong the results.
